Welcome to Seedlings, an intimate preschool located in Brooklyn Heights.
Our children thrive from increased attention with a child to teacher ratio of 4:1. Seedlings' small class sizes create an ideal atmosphere for developing social skills as well as meeting our young one's emotional needs.
We are conveniently located in Brooklyn Heights in a beautiful brownstone with a private backyard. At Seedlings, you’ll see learning happen every day through imaginary play, art, gardening, singing, dancing, science and more. Welcome to a place where the gift of imagination can flourish.
Welcome to Seedlings.
alice tse chiu
Alice was born and raised in Brooklyn,
where she is also now raising her two children. While in school for her MBA and working for a Fortune 50 company, Alice did volunteer work, helping physically challenged individuals lead active lives. Enjoying this work immensely, Alice returned to school, and received a Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy. She specialized in pediatrics for 18 years and had her own therapy clinics in Brooklyn and Manhattan, helping under-served pediatric communities. When asked why she chose to work in pediatrics, she states “It was the energy and the excitement of the children that made me so happy every day. It was inspiring to see the children with so many challenges stay determined and strong. That in turn helped me stay focused and see a purpose in my work.”
One of Alice’s favorite children’s books is The Kissing Hand. When she is not working, you can find Alice enjoying her time with her husband and children.
Tracy is a Michigander, however she has lived in NYC more than half of her life and calls it home. She has a BA in Psychology and studied Early Education and Speech Language Pathology.
She has been a total kid nut since she was 5 or 6 years old. Her dream as a child was to adopt a dozen children. She has a funny, sweet and talented
15-year-old-son named Nico and a dog named Kellvin. She finally achieved her dream and added 50 more children to her "family," when she and Alice opened Seedlings in 2012. She could not be happier.
Tracy's favorite color is reddish orange, like the setting sun. Her favorite ice cream is coffee, of course. She is currently reading Harry Potter under duress as Nico insisted she join the "rest of the world." She also enjoys biking, traveling and the blues.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, Natalie has worked with young children most of her life. At age five she knew she would become a teacher during the year, an actress during the summer and sell ice cream in her free time. Over the years her passion for teaching grew (and she realized she could just buy ice cream.)
Natalie has always loved helping children learn who they are and develop their personalities. Over the years she has devoted herself to sensory play and social emotional development. She has her Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education and English Literature from Brooklyn College and plans to pursue a Masters Degree as a Reading Specialist in the near future.
In her free time, Natalie loves to attend live story telling events like the Moth and create fictional children's stories.
Kristen is a native Brooklynite from Bay Ridge. She has been working with children since I was 13 years old, and she holds a Masters in Early Childhood Education (birth to second grade) from Fordham University. When asked why she loves teaching, she says “I love teaching because it is always fun and exciting to be around children. It is very rewarding seeing how we can make a difference in their lives. We also get to sing, dance, do art, and play everyday!” She is an advocate of learning through play, hands-on and sensory learning, and children playing an active part in their own learning. “I like to include children’s interests when teaching in order to get ideas onwhat they would like to learn about. The most important thing is to have fun while learning!”
Kristen’s favorite color is pink, her favorite book is Pete the Cat, and she loves coconut ice cream. When she is not in the classroom, you can find her hiking, dancing, and playing with her dogs Chip and Dale (they are father and son!).
A native Brooklynite, John grew up in Bensonhurst. He attended Brooklyn College for both his undergraduate and graduate degrees.
He has been working with young children with developmental disabilities for the past 7 years, specializing in ABA Therapy. When asked why he loves teaching, John says, “It takes a big heart, to help shape little minds, and it gives me such fulfillment in my life to know I am contributing to making a difference in these young children’s lives." When asked if he is excited about teaching Science, he says “ Science is facts, giving children the opportunity to explore and question at such a young age, is an amazing opportunity." One of John’s favorite quotes is from Edwin Powell Hubble, “Equipped with his five senses, man explores the universe around him and calls the adventure Science."
John’s favorite color is blue and favorite ice cream flavor is Chocolate. He also considers himself a foodie.
He is also a die hard New York Giants fan. When not in the classroom, John spends as much time as he can with his beautiful wife and two adorable daughters, doing things they can enjoy as a family.
